McClellin Looking Good Early

Pretty good effort from Shea in his first NFL action.  The Bears lost 31-3 but this is, of course, pre-season action and several key Bears were held out for this one.  That included Julius Peppers which allowed Bears coaches an opportunity to get Shea extended playing time--and he took advantage with several tackles and a  sack.  He got into the backfield on more than a couple of occasions and also showed off that motor by making plays on ball carriers from across the field.  The Chicago Tribune has its opinion here.

And There's The Hammer.

The NCAA has taken a sledgehammer to the Penn State football program.  Technically, it's not the death penalty.  But it may as well be because I don't see Penn State being competitive for the remainder of this decade, at least.

Ivan Maisel, one of my favorites over at ESPN, has his take here.

Adan Rittenberg, ESPN's Big 10 blogger, discusses the potential lasting effects.
